I Also Dwell Among Your Own People: Azmi Bishara, a Palestinian intellectual, a leading politician and a former member of the Israeli Parliament. The film presents three aspects of Bishara’s distinction and “otherness”: the intellectual quality of his political program; his challenge not only to the Zionist ideology but also to the particular role it has assigned to the so-called “Israeli Arab;” and the modernist, humanist, and civic aspects of his political vision, against the backdrop of Israel’s 75-year regime of violent dispossession and apartheid.

The Food Chain: Shot long before Israel’s total siege on the Gaza Strip, the film departs from the question: is there or is there not hunger in Palestine? The figures in the reports of several humanitarian organizations and statements by various officials seemed rather ambivalent. Outdated conceptual categories—which identify hunger with the swollen bellies of children, as in the case of Biafra—have prevented us from seeing the situation in the Occupied Territories as it truly is. Interviews with military officers, soldiers and policy-makers, all who declared themselves to be fulfilling a humanitarian function, paint a clear picture. The spread of humanitarian speech to the networks of the military and the government was part of the exacerbation of conditions in the Occupied Territories. One arm strikes the blow, while the other arm provides assistance. This is the current phase of the Occupation: the Palestinians are constantly kept “on the verge of catastrophe”. Those who contend there is no hunger in Palestine are absolutely correct. There is no hunger in Palestine, nor will there be. The mechanisms of assistance, which provide food to the hurting Palestinian population, counter-balance the fatal blow to the sources of food and accessibility to it.

While The Food Chain was shot well before today’s ongoing massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip – who are now not only contending with a brutal military assault but also with hunger itself as food and clean water have become scarce and aid is almost entirely blocked from entering the besieged Strip – it illuminates a decades-old system of total control and dispossession that have led us to the present moment.
